An overview

The rules for British nationality vary depending on when and where you were born and whether your parents were married or unmarried at the time of your birth. These rules are complex simply due to the history of the UK and its former colonies. Most commonly used in the context of our client’s is naturalisation. We, however, have on occasion has to trace complex nationality circumstances. Most recently, examining the independence arrangement for three countries and then the handling of the UKVI of the mater in this modern time. We have also had to help clients understand that documentation and retaining this is important. Bottom line is, if your ancestor from which your claim is derived has already passed on, then you need their information in order to trace the claim. The problem is that the burden of proving the matter is yours and not that of the UKVI.

Back to naturalisation, in this instance, you will ned to show that you are of good character, not a minor, that you met the residence requirements and English requirements and best of all, that you met the residence requirements. Your documentary evidence will prove this. Once you have met the requirements you will be invited to attend a ceremony to receive your naturalisation certification.
