Your Questions Answered - A summary of Automatix Acquisition of British Nationality

We are frequently asked questions related to Brtish Nationality. The main question is am I British? Do I have a claim. Well, here is how: The British Nationality provision allow for automatic acquisition in some cases. Examples of this could be  by birth or through descent from a British parent. Here is a list, you will be able to discern which applies to you, remember however there will be conditions which apply and the date you were born can also affect your claim.

1.    Birth in the UK: If you were born in the UK, you may be a British citizen if at least one of your parents was settled in the UK or was a British citizen or had indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
2.    British descent: If you were born outside the UK and at least one of your parents was a British citizen at the time of your birth, you may be a British citizen by descent.
3.    British overseas territories: If you were born in a British overseas territory and at least one of your parents was a British citizen or settled in the territory at the time of your birth, you may be a British overseas territories citizen.
4.    British nationality by adoption: If you were adopted by a British citizen, you may be able to acquire British citizenship through the process of adoption.
5.    British nationality by registration: There are several circumstances in which individuals may be eligible to register for British citizenship, such as those who have lived in the UK for a certain period of time or those who have a British parent.
