When Can a Person Loose British Nationality
Loosing one’s nationality is a serious measure. The UK Government has a remit whereby an individual can be stripped of their Citizenship. This can happen in a number of situations, examples being citizenship obtained fraudulently, or in relation to persons who have engaged in terrorism or other serious criminal activities and/ or if they have acted in a way that is considered seriously prejudicial to the vital interests of the UK. The process is instigated by the UKVI under the British Nationality Act. There is a right of appeal. The same could apply to someone who is subject to a deportation appeal. This is a serious measure and is not undertaken lightly. In order for the matter to progress the UKVI must have compelling evidence supporting the grounds on which the measure is to be taken. The reason I am writing this post is because I have had many questions from people afraid that they will loose their citizenship. So, the intention of this post is to clarify the circumstances of when this might happen.
